Climate change discourse in 2026 has bifurcated. The mitigation side — how to cut emissions — has its own enormous literature. The adaptation side — how to live and build differently in a climate that is already changing — has a smaller, less commercialized, and arguably more practically urgent body of work. This page is a reading list for the adaptation side, organized by what each kind of source contributes: the practical infrastructure and built-environment writers, the agriculture and food-system thinkers, the climate-resilience and policy literature, and the writers framing what adaptation means as a cultural practice. One deliberate omission: pure mitigation policy writing (carbon pricing, technology choices, energy transition) is not covered — that's a different conversation and has plenty of its own canonical reading.
A reading list focused on climate adaptation — built environment, food systems, resilience, culture.
